Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need pageant experience to compete?

No. Many contestants are new to pageants. This program is designed to help you learn, grow, and feel confident throughout the experience.

What should I expect during the weekend?

Contestants take part in educational sessions, outdoor learning experiences, interview preparation, and time connecting with other participants before the competition.

What kind of talent can I perform?

Talent does not have to be a dance routine. Speeches, storytelling, music, demonstrations, and creative presentations are all welcome. This is your chance to show personality and creativity.

What is Outdoor Wear?

Outdoor Wear is a scored category where contestants present an outfit appropriate for an outdoor activity of their choice and explain the safety, function, and purpose behind their selections.

Is camping required?

Camping is not required, but it is highly encouraged to fully experience the outdoor portion of the program. Contestants who choose not to camp are responsible for arranging their own overnight accommodations. Miss Missouri Outdoors does not provide hotel assistance or lodging arrangements.

Can family camp onsite?

Yes. Family members are welcome to camp onsite by making their own camping reservation directly through Peacetree Farms for that weekend.

Family camping reservations must be made in advance and are separate from the Miss Missouri Outdoors contestant campsite. Family members are not permitted to camp within the contestant group area.

Any disturbance to the contestant campsite or program activities may result in disqualification.

Can I bring someone to help with hair and makeup?

Yes. Contestants are welcome to bring someone onsite to assist with hair and makeup if they choose. This is not a service currently provided by Miss Missouri Outdoors.

Can I have a sponsor?

Yes. Many contestants seek local sponsors to help with pageant costs. This is encouraged as a way to build confidence and real-world communication skills.

What are judges looking for?

Judges value confidence, communication skills, preparation, authenticity, and overall presentation — not perfection.

What should I bring?

A packing list is provided on the Contestant Prep & Scoring page to help you prepare for both the outdoor and pageant portions of the experience.

I’m nervous. Is that normal?

Absolutely. Most contestants feel nervous at first. The program is designed to be supportive, encouraging, and growth-focused.
